I’ve been thinking lately about useless enterprises. I just don’t believe God wants us to waste our time with them. Trying to change people and churches by taking shots at them is one of those time-and-energy wasters. I used to do it so I know what I’m talking about.
Have these attacks on people and churches ever changed any of them? Have any of those legions of disfellowshipped churches (where’s the Scripture for that anyway?) ever returned to the fold? Have any of the assaulted denominations ever surrendered? Have any of the insulted and derided “clergy” ever surrendered their traditions and embraced the truth? Lessee…lemmethink…nope…can’t think of even one! See there? Useless. Waste of time. I believe we have better ways to use God’s time.
When we take the offensive and become offensive, we just solidify the opposition. On the other hand, gentle persuasiveness (2 Timothy 2:24,25) and graceful, seasoned words (Colossians 4:6) seem to work pretty well.
Hey…I’ve got an idea! Let’s start doing stuff that works!
